Amsterdam

City Weekend difficulty: Easy with kids: yes
Amsterdam

The city of canals, with narrow, leaning houses, more bicycles than cars and bridges everywhere. You get around by boat, by bike or on foot along its rings of water.

With kids

  • Tour the canals in a glass-roofed boat
  • Count the bicycles parked on a single bridge (hundreds!)
  • Look for the most crooked and narrow houses in the city
  • See the paintings and play at copying the poses at the Rijksmuseum
Accessibility: All ages — watch out for the bikes, they rule here

With family

  • Rent bikes and pedal as a family like the Dutch
  • Visit the NEMO science museum and go up to its rooftop terrace
  • Stroll the floating flower market beside the canal
  • Go to the windmills of Zaanse Schans, on the outskirts, in the same day
