Hell's Gate National Park

National Park Full day difficulty: Moderate with kids: yes
Hell's Gate National Park

One of the few parks in Africa you can explore on foot or by bike, among reddish cliffs, rock towers and gorges, with zebras and giraffes grazing around. Since there are no large predators, families pedal freely across the savanna.

The pop wink

Disney's team of animators traveled to Kenya to prepare «The Lion King», and it is documented that these cliffs and rock towers inspired the landscape and the mythical Pride Rock. Pedaling here is really entering the Pride Lands.

With kids

  • Pedal across the savanna among real zebras and giraffes
  • Look for the rock tower that recalls Pride Rock from the movie
  • Walk through the narrow gorge with high walls
  • Watch steam rise from the earth at the geothermal springs
Accessibility: All ages; child-sized bikes available; strong sun, water and a cap are essential

With family

  • Rent bikes and explore the park by pedal as a family
  • Descend with a guide into Hell's Gorge between the rock walls
  • Combine it with a thermal bath at a nearby geothermal spa
  • See the flamingos of neighboring Lake Naivasha on the way
